Welcome to Chemistry 12!
The year will begin with a review of safety expectations and necessary skills (Unit 1). Unit 2, dynamic equilibrium, will look at how some chemical reactions are reversible and proceed to equilibrium. Unit 3, solubility equilibrium, looks at how saturated solutions are systems in equilibrium. Unit 4, acids and bases, will cover how the strength of an acid or base depends on the degree of dissociation of its ions and the idea that weak acids, weak bases, and buffers are systems in equilibrium. Unit 5, oxidation-reduction, will discuss the complimentary processes of reduction and oxidation that involve the gain or loss of electrons and the implications redox reactions have for resource development and the environment. Unit 6, reaction kinetics, will be covered if time allows.
